The KCMQG has partnered with the Birthday Blessings program here in KC. While the program makes cakes for children who otherwise would not have received a cake on their birthday, the KCMQG’s spin is that we make blocks/quilts for children for their first birthdays. The quilt is something they could potentially keep forever or at least for years.
I made a few blocks. I wanted to make more, but my small fabric stash didn’t have the colors I needed since the community service committee is asking for specific blocks in specific color ways. However, I have PLENTY of blue and orange!

I was able to find a bit of pink and I had a bunch of lime green.

For some reason, I had some trouble with each of these block patterns. I think the square within a square was because I had a new foot on my machine and hadn’t quite figured out my quarter inch yet. The star gave me troubles because I was constantly doing my angles wrong and then not having a big enough piece of fabric to make a 4.5″ square. If I do these again, I’m cutting my star points at a larger size so I have plenty of fabric to play around with. However, once I got the hang of it, it went well.
