It’s fairly well known that I’m not much of a big Christmas decoration fan. I have a tiny Christmas tree made of yo-yo’s and that didn’t even make it out of the box this last Christmas. I also don’t really like Christmas fabric. I can’t seem to get into it. And I get really tired of Christmas in July sales. I know that I seem like a Scrooge, but I do really love Christmas, just not Christmas-y things. However, I did make a Christmas thing this last week.
I have never made a Dresden plate block before and I think I’m going to be using the block in a bee so I needed to give it a shot. They are surprisingly easy. The chevrons were another experiment. For the bee, I’ll probably use a plain white between each little plate piece to break up the chevrons a bit, but I really like the all chevrons on the wreath.
I did everything by machine, which is definitely the way to go. The quilting is just an echo of the plate points.
I think the quilting might be my favorite part. The binding is pretty cool, too, although sometimes I’m unhappy with it because of how un-uniform the chevrons can be.
I had a bit of a problem getting it to stay hung for pictures. I haven’t put a sleeve on it yet.
So there you go. I made something Christmas-y and the only reason I did was because 1) I could use chevrons and 2) I needed to test it out for a bee.

Lesley, where did you get the EPP for the wreath? This looks like a quick, fun project.

Great. I will look for one. Does it only make that size?

Very festive! I’ve never made one either. Adding to my quilt bucket list.
