After making a test version of this in cotton, I wanted to use some faux leather I got from Wildflower in Weston, MO. My coworkers were encouraging me, so I had to do it. I knew I wanted a hot pink exposed zipper, too.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I HATE BIAS TAPE TO FINISH GARMENTS OR ANYTHING BESIDES QUILTS! Since that’s how this is finished, I decided to line it and just top stitch the edges. It turned out that I had some hot pink thread, too.
I had no problem with this top until the very end when I was top stitching around the bottom. My machine would not do it. It kept doing weird things with the thread. I tried so many things and so many times. Finally, I gave up and decided to take it with me when I went to see my parents. I thought Mom’s machine would do better, but no. In the end, we used a tearaway stabilizer (actually, it was freezer paper) and that worked fine. I have to thank my genius Mom for that idea.
It’s a little edgy, but with a chunky necklace, it’s perfect. And it turned out to be the perfect New Year’s Eve top!
I failed to get a full picture of Andrew and I, but I can promise you that we both looked very hot and had a great time hanging out with friends.
