MQG Riley Blake Basics Challenge

The Modern Quilt Guild often works with fabric companies to provide fabric to the local guilds to participate in fabric challenges. For this challenge, Riley Blake provided fabric from their “Basics” categories. We received six fat eighths. I believe I received the fabric in September and the due date is in December. I knew that I didn’t want to make a quilt or a bag because those can become time consuming. Therefore, I determined a pillow or a small wall hanging would be appropriate. While looking for pillows, I stumbled across the Sprocket Pillow my mom made. The tutorial is from Cluck Cluck Sew and I immediately knew that it would be perfect for this challenge.

One of the challenge rules is that the item has to be quilted, so I modified the tutorial slightly to quilt the back and front of the pillow. Another rule was only solids or Riley Blake fabrics could be added. Luckily, I have tons of Riley Blake chevrons so I just pulled a FQ from my stash for the back. Another modification I did was to piece the strip of fabric that goes between the back and front pieces of the pillow with the scraps from the fat eighths and a few scraps from some chevron prints that I had lying around.

Since this was a fairly easy project, I decided to hand quilt the front. I love the look of the chunky quilting.

Instead of using covered buttons, I added some decorative ones that I had lying around.
