Sewing Weekend with Val – Part 1

When I have weekends where all I do is sew and spend time with friends, it makes it really hard to go to work on Monday. I just kept wanting to go back to the weekend. Val and I had so much fun this last weekend.

I started off Friday night by myself because Val was with a boy. 🙂 I finished a baby blanket and then I got to work cutting out all of the patter pieces for all of the robes I’m making for Robin’s bridesmaids.

The goal was to work on them this last weekend…but that didn’t happen. But I did get all four of them cut out. And the next day, I had a bruise on my hand from where my scissors rested. And it hurt!

On Saturday, Val came over around noon, we went to lunch, and then we really buckled down for some sewing. Well, Val buckled down. I mostly experimented/started projects.

Val's Baby Blanket

Cute, right? These are such perfect baby gifts. They are so snuggly, so cute ,so easy, and easily washable. Perfect!

I started a star quilt, but I didn’t have enough fabric to complete it, so I started another project instead of working on the robes.

Chevron Quilt

I decided to make a bunch of half square triangles. I had a charm pack of Summersville that I wanted to use. And I love the yellow Kona. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but that’s OK. It’s small. That’s as far as I got with it.

Val Cutting

There’s Val using a rotary cutter. It’s an inside joke that has to do with the boy from Friday night. 🙂

Val started place mats after that, but we tuckered out before either of us could finish anything else…not that i was planning on finishing anything.

Actually, I did finish something, but it didn’t really work out. I was working on making a shirt from a pattern that I drafted from another shirt. It sort of worked out after a few modifications. But then I didn’t like the fabric, so it’s hanging in my closet and I’m 99.9% sure I’ll never wear it. But that’s OK. The fabric was from a scrap piece from the robes anyway.

We ended up watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and we both really enjoyed it. But then we went to bed because we had a big Super Bowl Sunday ahead of us.
