Actually, the title should be plural, but that doesn’t really make sense. I made two of these bags based off of a bag a friend showed me a picture of online. I figured out the construction, wrote up a pattern, and whipped these out. Let me tell you…it can sometimes be a fun process and it can sometimes be a not so fun process.
I really enjoyed figuring out the construction and fabric dimensions, drafting the pattern, and refining the pattern. Picking out fabric and materials wasn’t so fun. Actually sewing the bag wasn’t so fun either…well some parts of it.
There are a lot of details to this bag and I think that’s what made figuring out the construction so much fun and the actual construction not as fun.
The lining is suede so it’s super soft for a laptop or other gadget. This bag can hold a MacBook, iPad, iPad Mini, and an iPhone. It’s actually made specifically to hold those products.
It can also hold more though. There’s a space for a wallet, pens, chargers, notebooks, etc.
The strap is also interesting. It’s 2″ cotton webbing and it’s made to easily sling over the shoulder, which is why it’s attached at the side of the bag. It gives it more of a backpack mixed with messenger bag style.
I really like how it slings. That’s probably my favorite part of it along with the pops of color and buckles. Embellishments always make things so much better.
I’m working with another friend on another bag that will be similar except made with canvas and leather…I’ll keep you posted.
