This quilt has been over 12 months in the making, but it’s finally finished.
AND I FREAKIN’ LOVE IT!!!!
This quilt was a labor of love. I love paper piecing and I love shot cottons, but those little trees are fun suckers. I love that I stuck with it though because I love how they look on the finished quilt.
The other reason that I love this quilt is the quilting. Jessica Toye of Jess Toye Quilts quilted it and she’s a rock star!
Yup, that’s a doorknob. She quilted a freakin’ doorknob into each door on the quilt. How clever is that?!?
Plus, each house has it’s own design. I love the scallops in the roof of this house.
And smoke. The chimney not only has stones, but smoke. SERIOUSLY! How awesome is that?!?
The swirls and wood grain make the perfect background designs and they both are on her website as some of her standard designs.
Let’s just take another look. I almost think the back is more fabulous than the front.
Well, maybe not. The front is pretty amazing. Anyway, take your quilts to Jessica. She’s already got another one of mine and I’m planning on sending another after that!
I’ve mentioned this before…this pattern is from Carolyn Friedlander and it’s called The Local Quilt. All of the paper piecing templates come with it. I traced mine onto paper piecing paper so I could preserve the originals. I doubt I’ll ever make this quilt again, but I may potentially make one or two of the houses again for bee blocks or gifts or something else. Who knows?!?
I have plans for this quilt, but I have to convince Andrew of my plans first. I’d really really like it to go in our front hallway since that hallway is super bare, but Andrew isn’t fully convinced. I think he’ll come around, though. 🙂

You did an awesome job on that quilt. It was a really fun one to quilt! I’m glad you love the smoke… after I did it I started to question it & Jason thought I should pull it out. 🙂

Just had a chance to see your blog & the quilt is amazing. Andrew, it does need a front row seat!!

This is amazing, both the piecing and quilting! Absolutely gorgous.
