Wonky Butterfly Bee Blocks

These bee blocks are for Nikki for the KC Scrappy Bee Group 2. She is planning on making a king size quilt and she has quite a few butterflies already completed.

Nikki and I have a great agreement worked out. I don’t throw away my small scraps and so they don’t pile up around my house, I give them to her. Some people think it’s a crazy deal, but it totally is a win win. I HATE having a bunch of small pieces of fabric lying around and Nikki cringed when she found out I threw them away. I have a giant glass vase that I put all of those type of scraps in and when it’s full, I throw it in a bag and give it to Nikki. Awesome arrangement. When she pulled out all of her completed butterfly blocks at the last KCMQG day retreat, I was able to pick out quite a few fabrics that had been mine. It was actually a lot of fun and I’m so glad they’re being used.

Of course, in my blocks, I had to include some chevrons. The yellow is Mirror Ball Dot. I’m not sure what the circles are. I purchased that particular fabric in one of the first large fabric orders I placed almost three years ago. Finally, I had to include some Razorback fabric.

Razorback Butterfly

Nikki is from Arkansas and I’m 99% sure she is a Razorback fan. I had this fabric left over from a coaster that I made my coworkers for Christmas last year.

The tutorial for these blocks can be found at Mrs. Schmenkman Quilts.
